The name ‘’tilia’’ has its origin from the Greek word “τίλος’’ (tilos), which means fiber. The reason is that the bark of linden tree has them in large quantity.
In Greek mythology, there is the tragic story of the nymph Philyra, who had been transformed by the gods in linden after birth the centaur Chiron.
Although, the first who had written for the health benefits of linden, was the German physician and herbalist, Jacobus Theodorus (Jakob Dietrich), called Tabernaemontanus (1525 – August 1590).
