Hyssop (Hyssopus Officinalis)
Hyssop is a herb native to Southern Europe, the Middle East and the region surrounding the Caspian Sea. This herb was known in ancient Greece and it was used by the famous Greek doctors, Hippocrates and Dioscourides. The word “hyssop” is referred in the Bible and it has Greek or Hebrew origin.
Hyssop has an interesting range of applications, most of which are due to the anticonvulsant action of a bitter substance that it contains,marrubiin. This great herb is used for digestive and intestinal problems including liver and gallbladder conditions, intestinal pain, intestinal gas, colic and loss of appetite. Furthermore, hyssop is used for respiratory problems including coughs, the common cold, respiratory infections, sore throat and asthma.
Hyssop is a herb which is consumed as a beverage.
