Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)

Yarrow is a plant that grows in Europe, Asia and North America. The properties of the herb are known since ancient times and there is a great Greek mythology for this. Also, yarrow was used as a remedy against bleeding and headaches. Moreover, in Ireland,during 19th century, it was believed that yarrow brings good luck, because it was the first plant that Jesus cut when he was a child. According to popular belief, anyone who saw the dream to gather yarrow would soon learn good news.

Nowadays, yarrow has a variety of beneficial effects on people’s health’s disorders. Firstly, yarrow is considered as a strong sweating remedy, as a result a hot drink can detoxify the body. Furthermore, yarrow’s decoction is a natural remedy for lowering the blood pressure and improving blood circulation. Using yarrow (internally) is believed to help bleeding of hemorrhoids, the menstruation and generally all internal bleedings.

Yarrow is not usually used in cooking, unless the cook wants. Yarrow is mostly consumed and used for its beneficial properties.
